Why should you install a solar battery if you have solar panels?
At Future Renewables, we get asked this question a lot, so read on for the benefits of installing a solar battery alongside your solar system.
Solar battery storage refers to the technology used to store the energy generated by solar panels for later use. This system allows homeowners and businesses to use solar energy even when the sun is not shining, such as at night or during cloudy days. Here’s how it works:
- Energy Generation: Solar panels convert sunlight into electrical energy.
- Energy Storage: The generated electricity is used immediately to power appliances and devices or stored in a battery system for later use.
- Energy Use: Stored energy can be drawn from the battery when solar panels are not producing energy, ensuring a consistent power supply.
Components of Solar Battery Storage Systems
- Solar Panels: Capture sunlight and convert it into electrical energy.
- Inverter: Converts direct current (DC) generated by the solar panels into alternating current (AC) that most home appliances use.
- Battery: Stores excess solar energy for use when solar panels are not producing electricity.
- Battery Management System (BMS): Monitors and optimizes the battery’s performance, ensuring safe and efficient operation
What are the different types of Solar Batteries we offer at Future Renewables?
While we install solar panels, we encourage customers to purchase one of the batteries we are currently providing our customers to ensure they can get the most out of their solar system.
Within batteries, there are several brands and products that we prefer. Including brands such as SolarEdge & Soluna 5kWh to 80kWh, depending on the brand.
There are also hybrid battery/inverter options such as the myenergi libbi which allows you to capture as much surplus solar electricity as possible, whilst integrating with your existing myenergi devices.
Libbi isn’t just a home battery storage system, it’s eco-smart. This means it makes intelligent decisions about when it provides and stores electricity based on how much energy you use, how much you generate with your solar, and the electricity tariff you use.
As we are Platinum Partners of DURACELL Energy, they have manufactured the DURACELL 5+ and DURA 5 batteries that come in 5kWh units that can be linked up to 80kWh. These are relatively lightweight and come with an excellent 10,000-cycle warranty.

So why should you install a solar battery?
✔️Energy storage
Batteries can store excess energy produced by renewable sources, such as solar or wind, for later use when energy demand is higher or when the renewable source is not available, such as during the night or when the wind is not blowing.
✔️Energy balancing
Batteries can help balance the energy supply and demand in a renewable energy system by releasing stored energy during periods of high demand, which can help reduce the need for expensive peaker plants or other backup power sources.
✔️Improved grid stability
Batteries can help stabilize the power grid by providing a consistent supply of power, which can help prevent blackouts and brownouts.
✔️Increased reliability
Incorporating batteries into a renewable energy system can increase reliability by providing a backup power source in case of an outage or equipment failure. This does not apply to all makes and models. We can advise of what is most suitable for you if this is something you need to consider.
✔️Environmental benefits
By enabling greater use of renewable energy sources, batteries can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other environmental impacts associated with traditional fossil fuel-based energy generation.
By investing in a solar battery system, you can enjoy the benefits of renewable energy, achieve greater energy independence, and contribute to a more sustainable future while also gaining significant financial savings over the long term.

Solar panels in Northern Ireland – what if I have ROCs payments?
We regularly get asked about adding solar batteries to older solar PV systems that attract ROCs payments. If this applies to you, get in touch to find out what options might be available to you.
What should you do if you are interested?
Like most things, solar batteries come in all shapes and sizes that require a careful evaluation of the benefits you can get and what is both energy efficient and affordable for your circumstances. Get in touch and we can help with an evaluation of battery options and how that might fit with a full solar PV installation.
